WhatsApp Disinformation Tipline
As citizens of Pakistan, it becomes our responsibility to ensure the democratic and inclusive nature of information during elections. That’s why we created Mithu, our tipline bot, to collect and track instances of gendered disinformation before, during, and after elections. Message and help Mithu with his research!
Gendered disinformation can be found on social media in the form of memes, videos and on messaging apps like WhatsApp. How can we identify such content?
It is false information that has been shared deliberately
It has a certain degree of planning and coordination to deceive, harm or manipulate.
It is based on sexist narratives and perpetuates gender stereotypes and roles in society.
DRF’s Election Desk
DRF is excited to announce the launch of its Election Desk for the upcoming General Elections of Pakistan!
DRF’s Election Desk will be acting as an observatory body and collecting data on harmful content in particular pertaining to hate speech, disinformation, gendered disinformation and technology facilitated gender-based violence. In the Election Desk, we will also be documenting instances of internet shutdowns and human rights abuses occurring prior to , during and post-election. DRF’s Election Desk will additionally be collecting data and content based on disinformation through artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI.
